Acclaim Entertainment Inc is the company that brought Mortal Kombat to a personal computer near you, and chief executive Greg Fishbank told the conference that thanks to Doom, he is comfortable with an analyst’s earnings estimate of $1.00 per share for the company’s 1994 fiscal year ended August 31; Acclaim, based in Oyster Bay, New York, recently announced that Mortal Kombat II, the latest version of its hit video game, reaped record sales of $50m in the first week of its launch on September 9 – that is more than the opening week receipts of the summer’s top grossing films, including Forrest Gump, Mask and Lion King; Acclaim’s companywide sales for fiscal 1993 were $214.6m; Fishbank said he is confident that Mortal Kombat II will draw $3.5m in sales and become the number one Christmas title; earlier this month bloodthirsty Acclaim released its latest game, Maximum Carnage, with a $10m ad campaign.
