The new travel cards will replace the various ticketing systems used by Denmark’s different transportation providers. The EastWest Consortium, as it is known, will also provide and support one million cards between 2007 and 2009, followed by options for additional ticket installments.

The group also includes locals IBM SDC, telecoms firm TDC Group, and architecture and engineering company KHR Arkitekter. Under the contract, Thales will supply components such ticketing equipment, security systems, and back-end systems. TDC will support installation and maintenance, and IBM SDC will provide back-end hosting.

Thales is currently working on a ticketing program in the Netherlands, which should be ready for use in Rotterdam later this year. National roll-out is set to be completed by 2007.
