Accenture has won a $70m contract from the Norwegian Armed Forces to implement a SAP application to support their core processes in logistics.

As per the deal, Accenture will design and configure a new logistics application which will enable the armed forces to expand and improve its products and processes in force generation and structure maintenance, procurement and supply chain management, heavy equipment maintenance and investment management.

With Accenture as lead system integration partner, the three-and-a-half-year project also includes implementing both a mobile and deployed tool in a bid to enable the armed forces to enhance operations for mobile units and maritime and NATO missions, the company said.

The enterprise resource planning application will be based on its SAP for Defense & Security offering portfolio, which the company sees has the potential to replace a number of existing information systems.

Accenture notes the project will allow the Norwegian Armed Forces to drive operational efficiencies and reduce costs across its operations, where the logistics project will form the final major part of the LOS programme to align processes and systems across all areas of Norwegian Armed Forces incorporating large-scale procurement and operational restructuring.

The project is also aimed at improving and establishing common processes across all parts of the Norwegian Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force and Home Guard.

Pearl Consulting has been appointed as a subcontractor to Accenture on this project.
