Number of subscribers using portable media devices like mobile or tablet to view adult content is expected to increase by 30% to 250 million by 2017, according to a report from Juniper Research.
According to the report, the growth is expected to be driven by the availability of high-definition, niche-centric product, as well as the increasing mobile-optimised free content.
The report revealed that revenues from adult videochat are anticipated to increase for the forecast period at a CAGR of 25%.
A report called Mobile Adult Content: Monetisation, Technologies & Legislation 2013-2018 revealed that smartphones and tablets have become important distribution channels for adult service providers.
Juniper Research report author Sian Rowlands said, "Whilst Juniper expects the total number of users of both desktop and mobile adult content to remain broadly consistent, we expect to see continued migration to smartphones and tablets, as more enhanced, tailored content makes its way onto these personal devices."
The report claims the mandatory content blocks announced by the UK ISPs would hinder the future growth in this market.
According to the report the users are using tablets to access adult content as tablet is increasingly becoming personal compared to other shared household devices, addressing concerns that the content might be viewed by other family members.
The report found that the subscription model will be best mobile monetisation model, primarily through sales of niche content.
