The scheme will be applicable for Visa debit, Visa Electron or 11-16 Cash Cards for a GBP5 charge.

A Photocard personalization system will be available to customers online, and does not require registration for online banking. It will provide the opportunity to download images from the bank’s library and upload personal photos, which can then be transferred onto a banking card template.

The initiative comes as a result of a survey carried out for Abbey by NOP, which showed that 56% of those questioned said they’d like to customize their bank card, and 26% said it would actually influence their choice of bank.

Abbey will also offer an extra summary page as part of a monthly statement which will indicate standing orders, Direct Debits and other bill payments.

Michael Johnson, Abbey’s Director of Cash, commented: We know that people like to be given choices in how they manage their money and we hope the option of personalizing their cards and statements makes them feel that their bank treats them like an individual, not a number.
