A new Ethernet network adaptor designed by Novell Inc for its NetWare v.3.x 32-bit network operating system and the new EISA servers, has been licensed to Anthem Electronics Inc, San Jose, California: under the pact Anthem will make and market the Anthem NE3200, and Novell will continue to develop, test and support drivers for the new board; when the NE3200 is combined with a networking system that includes EISA server and NetWare v.3.x, it is claimed to provide performance necessary for driving enterprise-wide networks; it is based on an on-board Intel Bus Master Interface Chip and a 10MHz 80186 CPU, and it can read and write directly between main memory and the adaptor’s memory in 33Mb per second burst mode, without requiring the services of the central processor; because the NE3200 transfers data across a 32-bit data path, bus time is reduced while operating system work time is increased; it has full ANSI/IEEE 802.3 compliance which ensures compatibility with both Novell and third-party networking products, and the NE3200 provides five software selectable interrupt options that enable multiple adaptors to be installed in the server or router.
