A MILLENNIUM OR JUST A CENTURY BUG?

By CBR Staff Writer

A reader says: I keep reading in several publications, including yours, about something referred to as the millennium bug, millennium problem, etc. I would like to remind you that the issue is not related to the change of millennium, but to the change of century. Therefore, it is a century bug, at least for programs using two digits to store the date. For those rare systems using three digits it is indeed a millennium bug. Which leaves me wondering what definition will be invented for what will happen at the end of the year 9999 to programs still using four digits..
