Nine companies are thought to have made a bid for Europe’s fifth largest cable television operator, Dublin’s Cablelink (CI No 1,090); these are Telecom Eireann, Fanoma of Finland, the UK’s United Cable, Pacific Telesis Inc, BellSouth Corp, the Setanta consortium, Triax consortium, Irish and Overseas Communications, and Time Inc; Radio Telefis Eireann, holder of 80% of Cablelink shares, is considering holding onto a stake of around 25%.
