The 88open supporters club for Motorola Inc’s 88000 RISC has greeted the news that MIPS Computer Systems Inc has agreed to be acquired by Silicon Graphics Inc with glee: it says it is planning a full-scale, New Orleans-style funeral for the MIPS RISC family and the Advanced Computing Environment Initiative, complete with coffin, keening women in black shawls and jazz bands.
