More than three quarters of Fortune 1,000 companies are expecting to offer some form of on-line transaction service by next year according to a report from Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Forrester Research. The report, Web Server Strategies, also charts a significant shift away from ‘dead Web’ – the distribution of marketing information – to the worldwide transaction Web where customers place orders or manage inventory on-line. The report found that a new breed of suppliers are emerging to support companies’ need to handle transactions over the Internet. Independent software vendors such as Connect Inc, Open Market Inc, BroadVision Inc are shipping turnkey packages that handle customer interactions from initial contact to on-line ordering.
