Following the Spanish government’s refusal to grant the company a GSM license Xfera has been forced to cut 44o jobs, 70% of its workforce.

The company has been left high and dry by the government’s knock back. It has a 2G roaming agreement with Vodafone, but is still unable to launch a mobile network until 3G handsets and infrastructure are fully up and running. Seeing as this is unlikely to happen before the start of 2003, this may just be the start of the company’s troubles.
