The high demand for a competitive advantage through mobility means there has been a 700% year-on-year increase in customer-built apps, according to research.

Results from the third quarter of Good Technology’s Mobility Index Report suggests firms are using secure mobile apps to help transform operations across a range of business areas.

"The rapid rise in custom app development illustrates that organisations are seeing mobility as a real opportunity for competitive advantage and security as a critical requirement in enabling trusted mobility," said Christy Wyatt, chairman and chief executive at Good Technology.

The third quarter results show the number of custom-built apps on the Good Dynamic Platform grew by 107% quarter-on-quarter, and by 731% compared with the same time period last year.

Such growth continues a trend of exponential growth in custom app development during the past three years.

The research suggests the custom apps cover a range of business areas, from aircraft manufacturing, police crime fighting and insurance claims processing to wealth management, treasury management and expense reporting.

The quarterly Good Mobility Index Report provides data on the adoption of enterprise applications and device activations from the previous calendar quarter.

The research identifies trends from the activities of mobile security specialist Good’s 6,000 global customers.
