The 600MHz 21264 Alpha chip that Digital Equipment Corp took along to the International Solid State Circuits Conference recently, was taped out in December, and a fully verified first pass is at the end of this quarter. No product could be reasonably expected before the second half of the year. Meanwhile, DEC and Mitsubishi Electric Corp are said to have tested a whopping 625MHz species of their intended high-volume 21164PC econo chip. The 550MHz version is said to have booted NT on the first pass.
