Like facsimile machines before it, one minute nobody had even heard of the World Wide Web, the next minute you are nobody unless you have a fax machine/presence on the web. According to Richard Anderson, IBM Corp Global Services general manager, 50% of companies across the world now have a web presence. Some 35% of companies are in the process of integrating their information to improve customer services, while 25% of organizations have extranets in place to link their businesses to trusted third parties such as customers and suppliers. However, only 10% of worldwide companies are actually doing electronic commerce at present, according to Anderson.
