5 wearables to keep you safe

List: From rings to fobs, to necklaces or a hidden tracker, wearables are not just about smart watches.

1. Safelet

Price: $79

Dutch company Everfind designed Safelet to create a community that surrounds and protects women from all sorts of dangers.

The safety bracelet sends out SOS alerts to friends, family, other Safelet users and the police after the user presses the extremes of the device.

The wearable talks to iOS and Android phones via an app. When the victim sends out an alert, the bracelet’s in-built microphone will also start recording.

 

2. Cuff

Price: $30 to $129

Cuff is a company that has designed nine pieces of smart jewellery for woman that call for help when needed.

Users have to press the device to trigger alerts. The collection includes cuffs, smart bracelets, necklaces and sport bands.

 

3. Safer

Price: $54

Safer by Leaf Wearables is a piece of jewellery that sends out alerts to all nearby Safer users, friends and family of the user.

The pendant features a panic button, which the victim has to tap twice to send out the alert which will allow all those receivers to know his or her location.

The company has designed the device to send out alerts using WiFi technology, but it has also programmed the wearable to send SMS notifications if no internet is available where the victim is.

Indian Leaf Wearables created Safer for women following the assualts in India. The company is also working on solutions for kids and the elderly.

 

4. Paxie

Price: $175 plus monthly fees

Paxie is a smart bracelet with real-time monitoring capabilities built into it. The device is able to transmit GPS location of the user, ambient temperature location tagging, boundary setting, daily activity, heart rate, and also sends out alerts from when the band is removed.

Developed by American Safe Family Wearables the product has been developed mainly to be worn by children.

Paxie transmits all the collected data to an app downloadable to any smartphone.

 

5. Artemis Clip

Price: $49

The Artemis Clip is a small device that also sends out alerts when something goes out of control. The wearable gives the user instant access to the police, medical and fire services via an iPhone and Android compatible app.

With two weeks battery life, the device has also been manufactured in a way that does not need to be taken off at the airport. It records the user location and audio.
