5 of the best dating websites

Choosing a dating website can be as hard as choosing a date!

By Claire Vanner

CBR has selected some of the most popular and successful dating websites out there to give you a bit of guidance on choosing where to post your profile online.

match

Match

Match’s traditional profile and match driven formula make it a highly recommended dating site, so much so that they even use it as their slogan. According to match, research conducted by YouGov found that in a blind survey, match was the most recommended dating site.

But don’t just take their word for it, seeing as one in four relationships in the last five years has begun online, more people are going online, and most of them seeing to be going to Match, especially women. According to The Dating Guide, women have a response rate of around 76% on match, which means that it’s a great site for men to get involved with.

Membership costs start at £22.80 per month, although the cost can go down to £10.88 a month if you buy a 6 month membership.

eHarmony

Although eHarmony may have become famed for the video of the girl who loves cats so much it moves her to tears, it is also well known for its use of data and analytics to find matches – right up CBR’s street.

While this may not be the most romantic way to find a partner, the 200-part questionnaire that users fill in when they sign up helps to run eHarmony’s Compatibility Matching System to ‘scientifically’ find someone who will be suited to you.

Membership costs start at £34.05 a month, but if you fancy signing up for a whole year the cost goes down to £9.95 a month.

my single friend

My Single Friend

This is the ideal dating site for anyone who is more inclined to have a someone fix you up. Your friend can act as your virtual wingman and sign you up and fill in your profile before you read over it and make any changes.

It’s a less traditional way of dating online, but it has fast become popular for its different approach that removes the awkwardness of having to ‘big yourself up’.

Membership to the site costs £21 a month (with a free trial period), but costs drop to £10.66 a month with a six month membership.

plenty of fish

Plenty of Fish

As the name would suggest, there are plenty of dates to choose from on Plenty of Fish, with over 40 million users worldwide.

One of the big draws is it is free to use, unless you want to add additional features, and that the profile is fairly quick to set up, so it’s a good ‘my first dating site’ if you decide you’re ready to plunge into the world of online dating.

doingsomething

Doingsomething

Rather than the standard "let’s meet for a drink", Doingsomething is based on the premise of people suggesting what to do for a first date to test your compatibility.

Aimed more at the younger generations, as there is no profile writing, your data idea should reflect what you enjoy doing. Dates posted on the site range from a walk along the river to a tour of loos of London (yes, really.)

It costs £10 a month to join, but depending on how extravagant your date is, it could end up costing more.
