5 best UK broadband deals from the big boys

TalkTalk, BT, EE, Virgin Media and Sky Broadband feature in the list.

By Alexander Sword

1. TalkTalk

TalkTalk’s Unlimited Broadband is free for 18 months, with line rental at £16.70 a month and £15.03 per month if you pay upfront. Included in the deal is up to 17Mb speed, unlimited downloads and a free £100 Voucher. TalkTalk tend to offer deals as packages, so its broadband can be combined with a phone deal, including a free YouView Box worth £149. If you’re not interested in landline but want better speeds, TalkTalk Medium Fibre Broadband provides up to 38 Mb speed and unlimited downloads.

2. BT

BT has its fingers in many pies, allowing it to provide a range of perks alongside its broadband deal. The BT Infinity 1 deal costs £7.50 a month for the first 12 months and £18 per month afterwards, topped off with a £16.99 monthly line rental and a one-off £35 installation fee. Customers will get up to 38Mb speed and 20GB monthly usage. The free BT Sport offering might win over Premier League fans, and you can now also get SIM-only deals from BT Mobile.

3. Virgin Media

If speed is your priority, then Virgin Media’s offering is the one for you. For £41 a month in a 12-month deal, the fibre-optic broadband will serve up speeds of up to 152 Mb. On average, Virgin Media claims that its speeds are 12 times faster than regular broadband. With a phone deal thrown in, you’ll pay £20 a month plus £16.99 line rental, but you will have to sign up for an 18-month contract.

4. Sky Broadband

Sky’s broadband always comes bundled, at the very least, with landline calls, but you can add in other services such as Sky TV. Broadband Unlimited provides a fairly cheap and minimalist option, costing £3.75 a month for 12 months as well as Sky Line Rental at £16.40 a month. This will give you 17 Mbps and unlimited downloads. £30 a month with £16.40 line rental will give you 76 Mbps under the Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro deal.

5. EE

The Unlimited EE Broadband & Calls deal comes in at £2.95 per month for the first 12 months, which rises to £9.95 thereafter. In this deal you will get 17 Mbps, with line rental costing £16.40 or £13.75 if you pay 12 months upfront. For £4.95 per month you can get EE TV included, but this will rise to £12.95 after six months. EE also offers Fibre and Fibre Plus, delivering speeds of 38 Mbps and 76 Mbps respectively.
