List: Find out about low-cost offerings from EE, Sony, LG and others.

By Alexander Sword

4G provides a much faster data service than previous generations, but until not too long ago was the preserve of higher-end phones. CBR rounds up some of the cheaper 4G smartphones on the market.

1. Rook – EE

EE launched its line of budget 4G phones as part of a drive to get more subscribers onto its 4G network. The Rook, priced at £49.99, is designed to break the perceived link between 4G capabilities and price. The device is fairly basic, sporting a quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and a 5 MP camera. It runs Android 5.1.

2. Xperia E3 – Sony

The E3 is priced between around £90 and £110, which is still at the affordable end of the 4G phone spectrum. With a 4.5 inch screen, a 5 MP camera and 1 GB of RAM, the device is powered by a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor.

3. Leon H340N – LG

Available online for around £100, this Android device (running Lollipop) is powered by a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, with 8 GB internal memory which can be expanded by up to 32 GB with a microSD. It comes with either a 5 or 8 MP front-facing camera.

4. Nokia Lumia 735 – Microsoft

This affordable Windows Phone runs on the Snapdragon 400 chipset with a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU. There is 8 GB of internal storage which can helpfully be boosted a mighty 128 GB through a microSD card slot. It has one of the better cameras on this list, with 6.7 MP. It comes to about £140.

5. A7000 – Lenovo

This device from the Chinese smartphone giant goes for around £130, running Android Lollipop. It uses MediaTek chips rather than Qualcomm, running on the MT6752m. It has an octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, with internal storage of 8 GB which can be boosted by 32 GB with a microSD. The primary camera is a comfortable 8 MP.
