450 jobs on the line as Oracle plans European cutbacks

Company targets software support centres located outside the UK, Romania and the Netherlands.

By CBR Staff Writer

Oracle is reportedly planning to reduce the number of employees at its European support centres, in a move that could have an effect on hundreds of employees.

Citing reports, the Register reported that the latest move would mainly impact all software support centres outside the UK, Romania and the Netherlands.

150 jobs are reportedly on the line in support centres in Germany, following reports that German worker protection laws mandated Oracle to advise the company’s representative works council body of the lay-offs.

Oracle’s financial results continue to not meet analysts’ estimations, with its hardware business, core on-premise software business, and cloud computing enterprises struggling to report growth.

The company’s CEO Larry Ellison also stepped down in September, at a time when the concentional business software market is under disruption with rise of cloud computing.
