3Net Ltd of Basingstoke reckons that there is now enough of a market for local area networks to link IBM PS/2s that it has come out with Micro Channel interface boards to its Z-LAN500 and Z-LAN4000 broadband local area networks. The company claims that by virtue of an enhanced CSMA/CD mechanism, it is able to get over the capacity problems that cause heavily-loaded Ethernets to sieze up, maintaining 80% usage of a 4Mbps channel, and with five channels on a broadband system an aggregate rate of 16Mbps can be maintained. The firm did not give price or delivery for the boards.
