Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co, St Paul has launched its first 3.5 floptical floppy disks, which use optical techniques for track positioning so as to achieve much greater precision and hence higher capacity: they are for use with Insite Peripherals Inc’s drives, which will ship in September with AT interfaces and will cost about $300; the 21Mb disks cost $31 each; the other disk medium licensee is Hitachi Maxell Ltd, and Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics Industries Ltd of Japan and Iomega Corp of Roy, Utah are licensed to make drives.
