The PowerPC promoters have won 3DO Co, Redwood City, California games machine designer, over to the RISC for its next generation 64-bit machine. The current version uses the Advanced RISC Machines Ltd ARM RISC. The PowerPC chips will be used in an add-on accessory, the M2 Accelerator, for existing 3DO machines and is expected to be out in late 1995. 3DO is working with IBM Corp, Motorola Inc and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd to develop a new 64-bit chip set that will include a PowerPC specifically designed for this kind of application, and multiple custom graphics and sound processors designed by 3DO. IBM and Motorola plan to engineer and make the PowerPC for 3DO.
