3DO Co has come up with an ingenious plan to promote sales of the Interactive Multiplayer it designed: it is offering two of its shares – currently worth about $25 each – to manufacturers for each Multiplayer they sell between now and September 30: the share giveaway will be accounted for as an expense, but analysts told the Wall Street Journal that it is a shrewd move because 3DO doesn’t have to come up with any cash and any resulting upsurge in sales should entice more software developers to write games for the machine; there are only about 20 now available, but another 200 are on the stocks.
