Initial shipments last week of Interactive Multiplayers to the 3DO Co Inc design are selling out, which makes Trip Hawkins, 3DO’s president, chairman and chief executive hope that they will acquire mass-market appeal: he told Dow Jones & Co that shipments by the maker of the machines – Panasonic Communications & Systems Co – began in a tightly-controlled release and that it was not a big enough number to declare a complete victory – but the sell-outs, which he expected, are indicative of what he hopes will be broad-based support by early adopters of new technology who can pave the way to the mass market; Hawkins didn’t indicate how many units were shipped, but a number of retail stores said they received only about three to 10.
