3Dlabs Inc has reported second quarter net loss of $18.14m compared with a profit of $6m on revenue which declined 44% to $8.8m from $17.3m after writing down $13.4m for costs associated with the acquisition of Dynamic Picture plus $2.5m for doubtful accounts associated with the company, reducing inventory, reducing headcount by 15% and writing off chip inventories as a result of moving into the board market. It says further charges will follow in the third quarter. The company blamed a slow-down in the PC industry, falling prices and the Asian markets for much of its problems. At the the six month mark the net loss was $15.8m compared with a profit of $11.4m on revenue essentially flat at $33.3m.
