3COM WILL BE HIT WITH CHARGE AFTER US ROBOTICS BUY

3Com Inc’s acquisition of US Robotics Inc (CI No 3,110) expected to be completed this June, means it will be hit with a charge of between $325m and $375m in the quarter, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. The two companies have scheduled votes for June 11 and US Robotics shareholders will receive 1.75 3Com shares for each of their own, now valuing the deal at some $6.6bn. 3Com had anticipated a charge to earnings but hadn’t estimate its size
