3Com Corp and US West Network Systems Inc are to develop jointly software that consolidates network management functions for interconnected IBM Systems Network Architecture networks and 3+Open LAN Manager local area networks. In an effort to eliminate the need for network managers at each local area network site, the companies are working on applications that will enable users to manage multiple local area networks and interconnected SNA networks from one workstation, when used in conjunction with NSI’s Netcentre Graphic Network Monitor. 3Com says it is also looking to integrate its LAN Manager with TCP/IP and standard Open Systems networks, and is working with Hewlett Packard Co to this end.
