Scott Murray will be replaced with Edgar Masri, joining from RedLine Communications, where he is COO.

Murray was said to be unwilling to commit to the travel time to oversee 3Com’s Chinese joint venture, Huawei-3Com, which the company launched with Huawei Technologies in 2003.

Scott Murray advised the Board that, with his young family, he was not able to commit to the extended time in China the venture requires, 3Com chairman Eric Benhamou said in a statement.

The company has also hired Bob Mao, from Nortel Networks, as executive vice president of corporate development to help H-3C. Masri becomes chair of H-3C.
