3Com Corp today made its second $1m donation of networking equipment to the Internet2 project, doubling its contribution to the project to interconnect over 120 US universities and national laboratories across a high-bandwidth internet network. Internet2, which offers networking companies a means to research and develop new networking products for transmitting voice, data and video across a single network, has had donations from a number of companies including Fore Systems, which has pledged equipment worth $1m and IBM, which values its contribution at $3.5m.
