3Com Corp is the latest investor in the new high speed private internet- Internet2- for use by US government agencies and research universities. 3Com has provided $1m of networking equipment for the network, the same contribution that Bay Networks Inc made last month (CI No 3,231). The Internet2 project has the aim of developing next generation Internet Protocol networks, which run at billions of bits per second, and advanced IP software. There are currently 110 partners in the project.
