Santa Clara, California-based 3Com Corp has announced an 18-month roll-out plan for enterprise-wide switching. Forthcoming products will include switches for Ethernet, Token Ring, Fibre Distributed Data Interface, Fast Ethernet and Asynchronous Transfer Mode, says 3Com. As the first phase of the strategy, 3Com has added two models to its LANplex family of switching hubs. The 2500 and 2016 models are aimed at workgroup and small collapsed backbone environments, and the company claims they to offer eight times the throughput of competing models.
