3COM GETS CLOSER TO NOVELL TO MAKE NETWORK BUILDING EASIER FOR USERS

By CBR Staff Writer

Looking to give a lift to its business, the Santa Clara-based 3Com Corp has sealed a new alliance with Novell Inc to harmonise technologies to facilitate the building of tightly integrated branch office networks worldwide. The agreement includes enhanced interoperability in network management, routing, and desktop technologies. 3Com will integrate its Transcend network-management family with Novell’s NetWare Distributed Management Services to provide centralised end-to-end management of their network from the NetWare Management System 2.0 console. 3Com will support NetWare Link Services Protocol in its NETBuilder bridges and routers and Novell will incorporate 3Com’s Boundary Routing system architecture in its NetWare MultiProtocol Router Plus products. 3Com will incorporate Novell’s Virtual Loadable Module into AutoLink for its network adaptors. 3Com products will continue to be tested in Novell Labs.
