3Com Corp has added to its third-generation stackable workgroup networking systems with the release of its SuperStack II Port Switch Hub 10. The new hub boosts the low-end of the range and according to the company, undercuts some unmanaged products on price as it comes in at $55 per port. It can also be upgraded to incorporate the company’s Power Grouping technology from $60 per port to provide additional scale management, boost bandwidth and build a cost-effective migration path towards switched networks. 3Com introduced Power Grouping technology with the SuperStack II Port Switch Hub in August this year, incorporating an advanced microsegmentation technology which creates multiple segments within a single hub to provide additional bandwidth, says the company. Up to ten units of the SuperStack II Port Switch Hub 10 product can be stacked together to deliver up to 260 user ports per managed stack. By adding a single Hub to a stack of the new SuperStack II Port Switch Hub 10 products, users can implement Power Grouping technology to achieve speeds up to 40 times faster than standard shared Ethernet hubs, creating 40 by 10 Mbps Ethernet segments, says 3Com. The products are available now at $759 for the 12 port model and $1,340 for 24 ports.
