3COM AGREEMENT WITH FRANCE TELECOM DIVISION ON X400, X25

By CBR Staff Writer

3Com Corp, Santa Clara has teamed up with the Telesystemes Reseaux division of the Cogecom arm off the French PTT, France Telecom in an agreement for joint development of an X400 message handling protocol-based gateway and an X25 packet-based router that will enable exchange of electronic mail worldwide among 3Com computer networks and those of other computer vendors who support the two standards. The intention is that 3+Open Reach/X400 and 3+Open Internet/X25 should enable a variety of workstations, including MS-DOS micros, IBM PS/2s and Macintosh computers on 3+ and 3+Open networks to exchange electronic mail worldwide with the likes of IBM’s Profs and DEC All-In-1 office systems, and Telenet Telemail and Transpac Atlas 400 public systems.
