Santa Clara, California-based 3Com Corp has added a new member to its OfficeConnect family (CI No 2,872). The new OfficeConnect Internet gateway, aimed at NetWare installations, is designed to provide ISDN- or leased line-based communications to the Internet without Internet Protocol software and addresses on each personal computer – the same functionality provided by Cisco Systems Inc via technology gained through its Internet Junction acquisition (CI No 2,744) and by Bay Networks Inc through the Instant Internet system acquired with the takeover of Performance Technology Inc (CI 2,863). It is to ship from October for $2,000. Also new is the unmanaged Hub 8/TP100 Fast Ethernet Hub, which provides eight 100Base-TX ports: it is due to ship this month for $1,400. Finally, the company has added new software to its Remote ISDN router and AccessBuilder products which is said to bring support for Multilink Point-to-Point Protocol, as well as the Bandwidth Allocation Control Protocol. It is free to existing users, and will ship as standard on all new AccessBuilder and OfficeConnect ISDN router products.
