In the UK, a total of 27 candidates are now lined up to fight it out for the six licences on offer from the Department of Trade & Industry to operate uplink one way-to-multipoint satellite Wservices: the candidates include Reuters Holdings Plc; Electronic Data Systems Corp, the General Motors subsidiary which plans to model services on those operated for dealers by its parent in the US; Maxwell Satellite Communications – and the Starlink Programme Services commercial consortium which also includes Birmingham City Council, full of surprises these days after its Quixotic bid for the summer Olympics.
