Switch Data Center is to invest $1bn in building another of its SuperNAP data centres in Nevada, as it looks to bolster the state’s growing tech industry.
The company, whose clients include Ebay, the US government and Dreamworks, will build a 3,000,000 sq ft data centre site on 1,000 acres of land near Reno.
The news was announced by Nevada’s Gov. Brian Sandoval on Thursday, during his annual State of the State speech.
"Switch, the world’s largest data centre, is poised to expand to Northern Nevada, bringing $1 billion of investment with it," he said.
"This will make Nevada the most digitally connected state in the nation."
Switch, which provides security, power and cooling for thousands of server-stuffed racks, is also investing a further $2 billion to expand its Las Vegas data centre campus.
"Switch also plans 1,000,000 sq ft of new data center space in Las Vegas, for a total investment of $2 billion," said Sandova.
