The KTI Semiconductor Ltd joint venture of Texas Instruments Inc and Kobe Steel Ltd will shift production to 16M-bit memory chips from 4M-bit DRAMs by the end of the year – 16Ms currently account for under 40% of the total output, but will rise to 60% by the end of the year; the company, 75% owned by Kobe Steel and 25% by Texas, currently fabricates 7,000 wafers a month.
