16-, 32- AND 64-BIT CHIP SHIPS UP 300% IN 1996

Shipments of 16-, 32- and 64-bit microprocessors and microcontrollers into next generation consumer electronics grew by 300% in 1996, according to DataQuest Corp. Shipments reached 51.6 million units last year and are forecast to grow by 50% this year, hitting the 150 million unit mark by 2001.
