A band of 15 mobile communications companies in the US and Canada have joined forces to promote MobiLink, a collection of features designed to make cellular service easier to use and accessible to more people: MobiLink service will enable people to make and receive calls more easily, using standardised dialling codes in major metropolitan areas, provide 24-hour customer service, service centres for repairs and loan phones and the industry’s first customer satisfaction guarantee of its scope; the MobiLink service mark will be available to be licensed to wireline cellular operators owned by many leading telecommunications companies – in each city in the US, two cellular carriers were licensed, one of which had to be the local telephone company, and only these can use the MobiLink service mark; in Canada, the MobiLink brand will be offered by Mobility Canada, a national consortium of companies operating the largest paging and cellular networks in the country; the founder MobiLink partners are AllTel Mobile Communications Inc, Ameritech Mobile Communications Inc, Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems Inc, BellSouth Mobility Inc, Cellular Inc, Centel Cellular Co, Century Cellunet Inc, GTE Mobilnet Co, Contel Cellular Inc, Mobility Canada, Nynex Mobile Communications Co, PacTel Cellular, Rochester Tel Mobile Communications, SNET Cellular Inc, and US West Cellular Inc.
