This figure represents a growth of 46.4 million subscribers this year, and there will be a growth of just 25 million new landlines bringing that figure to 169 million. The MII said that the country had 117 million mobile subscribers by the end of June.
If the growth profiles are maintained, then there will be more cell phones than landlines in China by the middle of 2003, although an expected surge in Internet connections could change that.
