Out of the 97,379 jobs lost in the US in January 1996, 11,997 were in the computer industry, according to a report by Challenger, Gray and Christmas Inc, an international outplacement consulting firm. Overall, the January figure was 150% higher than January last year and 76% higher than December 95, but it was not stated whether this was due to increased computer layoffs.
