By Alexander Sword

Many people love their smartphone and the thought of parting with it is too horrible to imagine. Luckily for them, companies have a myriad of insurance products specifically for electronic gadgets. CBR has collected a few of them here.

1. Endsleigh

Endsleigh is known as the insurer for student, education and graduate markets. Mobile phones can be insured either under its gadget insurance policy or as part of a student bundle.

Endsleigh offers a 10 percent saving when you insure 2 gadgets and 15 percent when you insure three or more. Monthly prices, covering accidental damage, liquid damage and loss or theft, start at £1.95 with a £50 excess and maximum cover up to £6000.

2. helpucover

Most families in the UK now have more than one mobile device, whether this includes smartphones for each member, tablets or newer categories such as wearables.

Helpucover’s Gadget and Mobile Phone Insurance seems to have grasped this fact and allows customers to register an unlimited number of items for £14.99 a month. Users can claim up to £1500 per year and the policy includes worldwide cover for up to 90 days.

3. SwitchedOn

Switched On Insurance – reportedly for ‘switched on people’ – provides gadget and phone insurance from £1.45 a month. This covers accidental damage, device breakdown, theft, liquid damage, cracked screens and loss. It is also possible to add optional cover against theft, loss, unauthorised calls and data usage, E-Wallet fraud protection and up to 45 or 90 days Worldwide cover.

4. Protect Your Bubble

Specifically for the iPhone market is Protect Your Bubble’s offering, imaginatively titled ‘iPhone Insurance’. This covers all the usuals, also bringing unlimited repairs, multi-gadget discounts and live customer support to the party. For most customers this will cost £5.99. Protect Your Bubble is backed by Assurant, a Fortune 500 company.

5. I-Digital

i-Digital is an online insurer, which might appeal to those drawn to simplicity. The simple online portal allows you to customise your choices to provide a tailored policy. The annual policy provides a month’s free cover and there are also discounts for insuring more than one item; customers can insure five items for the price of 2.5. The policy is tiered, offering different features such as fraudulent call use in the Premier category.

6. Insure and Go

Insure and Go allows you to customise how much you want to pay in excess and how much you want to pay monthly. It offers a Standard package which includes accidental damage, mechanical breakdown, water damage and cracked screen, as well as 45 days of worldwide cover and £50 accessories cover. An Elite package provides you with 90 days of cover, adds theft and loss to the bargain and serves up £150 of accessories cover.

7. MendIT

This computer repair specialist offers two main policies: the first of these covers accidental damage including physical damage, liquid spills, immersion, fire damage and flood damage. The second adds loss through theft. Notably, MendIT does not charge excess on either policy and provides worldwide coverage on both. The insurance starts at around £1.48 per month.

8. Gadgetbuddy

Gadgetbuddy is one of the simplest interfaces as it is exclusively focused on the gadgets market. Input the make, the model and the memory and it gives you a monthly and yearly quote, breaking it down to a daily rate. The cover includes accidental damage, overseas, breakdown, fraudulent use and liquid damage. Optional extras include loss and theft. Customers can customise the service based on how much they use particular items.

9. Budget Mobile Cover

24-hour replacement, accidental damage and breakdown and screen or liquid damage are included in this policy, which starts at £1.49 a month. It also covers cracked screens and brings immediate family and worldwide cover. Theft, loss and unauthorised calls are available if needed. The young company offers a simple portal allowing users to input their details and quickly receive a relevant quote.

10. EE

If you’re not too keen on working with a completely new company and you already have an account with EE, why not consider their mobile insurance offering? Full Cover from EE, costing £10 a month, offers a replacement the same day or the next day. On top of the usual features it adds Lookout Mobile Security – EE edition, which will help protect your phone from online crime or malware.
