It looks like the Germany is set to overtake the UK as the top social networking country in Europe, according to the latest predictions from market research firm eMarketer.

The research, which is based on quantitative and qualitative data from research firms, government agencies, media outlets and company reports, found there will be 33.9 million social network users in the UK by the end of 2013, while Germany’s figure will rise to 35.4 million users.

However, when it comes to using Facebook, the UK remains at the top, with 30 million UK residents set to access Facebook each month this year. This is well ahead of the 22.1 million users expected for each of France and Germany.

Nearly half the UK population and more than six in 10 internet users will use Facebook this year, putting the country only behind homogenous markets such as Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands.
