Google has been tracking music uploads on Google Play and has found a use for all the data. It created the Music Timeline, an interactive map of music’s journey through Google Play Music’s users’ libraries.
The timeline shows music genres colour coded, and highlights the rise and fall of their popularity over the years.
Users can observe the most popular genres and discover what band releases are most prominent in terms of sales.
The timeline also allows you to click each genre separately to get a more complete and focused look at a specific music type. You can then filter the genre by decade, and see which artists are most prominent within that genre and era. You can then click specific artists to see a catalogue of their albums, sorted by their release dates.
One of the best features about the timeline is that users can then click on the albums below the timeline which will link them to the Google Play store, where they can download the album.
The Music Timeline by Google is great for music lovers, you could spend hours getting lots in eras and genres. It’s also a handy tool for people to find new music, so fans of 60’s tunes can discover old classics, and fans of rock music can trawl through the decades of the genre to expand their music collection.
