With so much hype around the idea of drones delivering Amazon packages, it was only a matter of time before another big company came in with a more ridiculous idea. Well, the time is now, and that company is Google.
According to The New York Times, Google is currently working on robots that could one day deliver items to its customers.
Apparently the company has acquired seven robotic companies in Japan and the US to assist them in building robots that could one day be able to automate the electronics assembly process or help deliver packages quickly for Google’s same-day delivery service, Google Shopping Express.
As much as this idea sounds great and innovative and interesting, it also sounds just as ridiculous as the idea of drones flying over our neighbourhoods delivering Breaking Bad boxsets. Somehow, I can’t imagine a world where packages are delivered by robots either. Is the idea of a human doing these jobs so outdated now? Because sometimes there are things that technology just shouldn’t do, and mail delivery is one of them.
