Open source SOA software vendor WSO2 has launched a standalone version of its Carbon Core, which is the heart of its componentised service-oriented architecture platform Carbon. WSO2 Carbon is built on the OSGi specification.
The WSO2 Carbon Core features the Carbon framework and user interface framework, which reportedly provide the functionality required to run, view and manage all Carbon-based components. The Carbon framework is said to deliver capabilities for management, security, clustering, logging, statistics, and tracing.
The company said that the Carbon Core can be used with any 100-plus components that comprise the WSO2 Carbon SOA platform. It allows developers to create the composite services.
According to WSO2, previously, to obtain Core, developers needed to deploy the WSO2 products, such as enterprise service bus, web services application server, registry and business process server. The standalone Core allows developers to bypass the products and deploy only required Carbon SOA components.

In addition, the company is also planning to release new versions of its enterprise service bus and web services application server.
