Vonage has launched Vonage Mobile, a mobile calling application for smartphones. It is a free downloadable application that provides low-cost international calling while on Wi-Fi or cellular networks.
Vonage claims that the mobile service saves customers more than 50% on calls to many countries versus the rates charged by wireless carriers.
The company said, in the fourth quarter of 2009, the app will be enhanced to include Vonage World plan that was introduced for home service in August. This enhancement extends the ability to make unlimited calls to over 60 countries for one flat monthly fee to mobile users.
According to Vonage, the new service allows users to make calls while on Wi-Fi or cellular networks; uses your existing contact list; utilises existing cell phone number; and shows real-time balance updates and the provides the ability to automatically replenish funds in their account.
Mike Tempora, senior vice president of product management at Vonage, said: When developing Vonage Mobile, we focused on creating a more convenient alternative for customers who use calling cards or Wi-Fi only applications. Vonage Mobile is easy to get and use, and gives customers the best possible calling experience from a trusted provider.
The company said that the new app will be available for download on the iPhone, BlackBerry and iPod touch at Vonage website and the iTunes App Store.
