Visi, a data centre services and managed hosting provider, has entered into the public cloud computing services business with the launch of the public beta of its ReliaCloud service.

The company said that the service is targeted to IT managers in established, small to midsized firms, and to startup firms that want to take advantage of economic benefits provided by running their servers and applications in the cloud.

Jason Baker, CTO of Visi, said: “After many months of preparation, we’re proud to take the covers off a cloud computing service we specifically designed to be more reliable than the commodity providers in the market. We didn’t want customers to have to re-architect their solutions just to work reliably in the cloud. We knew they wanted enterprise-grade security and peace of mind.”

“We wanted customers to be able to scale from 10 servers to 100 servers, and back down again. And we wanted them to have the option of doing this programmatically via an API.”

The company offers service with a price starting at 5 cents per server hour for a web management portal, load balancing, 24x7x365 support, and an API.
