Have you ever accidentally stumbled across a spoiler for your favourite TV show whilst browsing social media? Or perhaps your addiction can’t help itself and you need an intervention?
Well 17-year-old Jennie Lamere has come up with the solution. Winning best-in-show at a Boston Hackathon, she has designed an extension for Chrome and Firefox users which blocks tweets with specified keywords.
She said that she had grown tired of having her own favourite shows, Dance Moms and Pretty Little Liars, spoilt by mentions on Twitter.
Lamere beat professional developers at the TVnext Hack event and now plans to develop her plug-in ‘Twivo’ commercially. Having only come up with the code the night before the competition, the TVnext Hack event, the plug-in was developed overnight in 10 hours and has propelled Ms Lamere into something of a poster girl for female coders.
US based group ‘Girls Who Code’ have congratulated Ms Lamere, who was the only female and only individual competitor, all the others worked in teams.
Lamere has high hopes for the future, including wanting a job at Google, but her father said she’s got more limited ambitions right now.
"Her next life goal is to get more Twitter followers than her friend Andrew," Paul Lamere said.
